Jasmine – The Character
Who is this young woman?
Jasmine is the name of someone. It is likely the young person who lives in a state funded facility.
Jasmine is an imagined character. Although she is not based on a real person, she is very much an emblematic figure whose life represents an actual story.
This is a story that was inspired as I was visiting, interacting with and feeling the emotional impact that reverberates within the walls of state run foster homes. In the early 2000’s I many Juvenile Courts Commumity Services (JCCS) schools and facilities.
This story is a way to honor the young people who grow, rise and move forward in their lives despite these circumstances. These are exceptional human beings, the characters in this book, Jasmine Lives are living in a Foster Home, without the guidance of their respective parents.
This writing is a way to textually draw what one person may be feeling, living through. It is -an attempt to give an intimate look in the direction of life in Foster Care.
This is a way to paint one story that very well may touch on the mural of many lived stories, as well as an earnest attempt to dive deeper towards the lived monologues of one fictional character. Although this is not a biographical account, it is a story that feels real within the confines of an imagined, representative Foster Care Facility.
